Although this is still one of the most popular ballads alive in tradition today, it has seldom been recorded commercially. The theme of the returning sailor or soldier, in disguise, to the faithful maiden is found also in “John Reilly.” Bill Monroe’s recent version of this story takes place in cowboy country. The Stan-ley Brothers’ recording of this song borrows its text from Cousin Emmy (via the New Lost City Ramblers).

All tracks are great. The other great thing is the liner notes. It's so good to have them and good on those artists and labels that include them. In this world of high-quality downloads it should be the norm. Thanks to SFW oldjembo

This is classic blues...sounds like a bunch of serious musicians sitting around and just having fun.
It's just beautiful. If you love blues or are dabbling with guitar, this is great fun. Jfah
